Hello my friends!
Today is the day after the big DAY!! Yes, we had our Fundraising Event and all went really well. I don’t know what was the most fun though.. Preparing and getting ready for it or the event itself 😉
After weeks of gathering funds , selling support cards, accepting wonderful gifts and not to forget getting our outfits together. My Madonna 80’s look was something I was really looking forward to it and I must say.. I succeeded! When people entered the party most had a tough time recognizing me!
Some of our volunteers gathered at our house so we could get ready together (uhm yes I really did need some help with the make-up AND the hair..) and fill our stomachs with some home-made spaghetti before the event. I must say we had a very good time 🙂 A bottle of bubbles was shared of course.
The party was scheduled to start at 21:00h and we suspected that most people would turn up until much later. Finally summer weather has arrived in Belgium so most people took advantage of that and did indeed arrive later.
But that left us with plenty of time to get everything organized. One quick shoot of the three nieces together
in front of our house before driving to the venue. Can you image the looks we got on our way? When we got there we still had to put on some signs so that people could find their way with ease and once again people stared at Madonna and a funny looking bloke with BIG hair. Luckily the roads weren’t too busy so accidents were avoided 😉
21:00h appeared on the clock and our first guests started to arrive, one by one, all with big smiles on their faces and ready to dance and party the night away for the children at the Mama Tunza Children’s home.
In the mean time our first DJ of the evening had started with tunes from the 70’s 80’s and 90’s so there was plenty of music to everyone’s liking. People came from different corners of the country (yes I know Belgium isn’t that big, but still, some had a long drive behind and in front of them). We had 4 female DJ’s playing until the early hours of 4:00 am.
The evening was a success for sure although we were a bit disappointed by the lack of costumes..only a few people came in dress-code (I suspect the weather did have something to do with that)..but of course that wasn’t a necessity to have a successful evening!!
The success of our Fundraising event is definitely thanks to the many volunteers who helped us out during the evening and the people who sold support and entrance cards in advance.
Patricia and I sincerely would like to thank each and every single one of you who helped us out!! Without all YOUR help this party wouldn’t have been this successful.
During the evening we also had a slide show playing on the beamer where our sponsors were thanked for their contributions. Here’s a link
Yes, we didn’t have as many people as expected or hoped for BUT we sure had fun AND funds were raised. At this point we do not have a definite figure just yet as we still have some bills to pay. One big one will be from the brewer.
But as soon as we know we will let you know!!!
One thing’s for sure. There will be some very happy children and carers in Nairobi very soon!! I can’t wait to see the looks on all their faces.
Today, after some very short sleeping hours (uhm 2) we are still talking about it and enjoy hearing all the positive feedback from last night. This of course is always a pleasure to hear.
Now that the party is over I can start to concentrate on the trip itself!!
In the next couple of days we will be going through all the children’s clothing we have received and start filling my bags… Oh boy!! Mission impossible?? It may just be but I will do my best to get as much as possible in those bags so that the teens at Mama Tunza will get their share of clothing. Some footballs have been added to the collection (+ pump) as well.
Stay tuned and I will keep you up-to-date !
ASANA SANTE RAFIKI!!!!!!
